Hey crew!
We’re back after a great summer (with some amazing APC events). Hope you had an arming time. Now it’s time to get back to work!
This was my 5th summer break while working in tech, and I realized my personal growth in that time has been insane. From only having worked on small projects (as founder or designer), to starting and operating a multi-million business unit for VEED. All while tripling my compensation. Not bad ey?
I’m not sharing this to brag. I share this because I want this for you too. We should all build exciting things that make good money, and get rewarded for it!
The main reason for my growth is that I’ve taken learning very seriously. I train my PM skills like an athlete. One of my favoriete tools is a decision log. I learned it from Conny, and found out it’s also being used by product leaders at Stripe:
Here’s how it works:
At the end of every week I sit down for an hour, and write down A) my key decisions, and B) my key learnings. All in a (long) apple notes file - nothing fancy!
This allows me to timestamp my thoughts and get back to them later.
Did we pick the most optimal solution? What did I miss? If I were to do it again, what would I do differently?
Reflecting like this helps train your decision-making capabilities. And that’s the main thing PMs do: make good decisions.
